The Region V officers and executive committee are elected on an annual basis and announced at the regional meetings held in the fall of each year.

Nominations Open

The NCURA Region V Nominating Committee has opened the call for volunteers for the 2027 New Officers and Executive Committee.

Picking a slate of candidates for NCURA regional leadership is an important task and should not be taken lightly. Please take a moment to consider the current opportunities outlined below, then take the next step by either nominating a well-deserving colleague or self-nominating. Our Region must recruit potential nominees with strong leadership skills, service to our profession, availability, and most importantly, enthusiasm.

This year, we will be selecting the following positions:

Region V Chair-Elect

The Chair-Elect shall be the chief executive officer of the Region after the Chair and shall assist the Chair in such ways as the latter may direct in the conduct of Regional affairs. In the absence of the Chair, the Chair-Elect shall perform the duties of the Chair. The Chair-Elect shall also serve as the Co-Program Chair for the Regional Fall Meeting. The term of office of the Chair-Elect shall be one year beginning January 1, 2027, followed by a subsequent one-year term as Chair and a subsequent one- year term as Immediate Past Chair. The Chair-Elect shall automatically succeed to the
position of Chair.

  • Serves as Program Co-Chair for the annual Region V Meeting of the membership
        • Assist with the hotel and food arrangements, marketing and communications, registration, sponsorships, and vendor contracting
        • Help coordinate meeting activities with the national office, the regional officers, the hotel and A/V staff, local liaison, and other contracted vendors
  • Oversees the Volunteer Coordinator position and volunteer needs for all Region V activities
  • Oversees the Accessibility & Belonging Committee
  • Assists with Business Meeting preparation at the annual NCURA meeting and annual Region V meeting
  • Provides support to Program Committee Chairs, as needed
  • Promotes and attends virtual education offerings
  • Assists the Chair as directed
  • In the absence of the Chair, the Chair-Elect performs the duties of the Chair
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Must be a regular member in good standing with NCURA (as defined by National By-laws) for at least five years at time of nomination
  • Must be a member of Region V
  • Must have served on a regional meeting program committee, as a regional executive committee member, or in a similar volunteer position at least one time.
  • Serves a one (1) year term beginning January 1
  • May not serve consecutive terms
  • Time required to fulfill responsibilities is approximately 20+ hours per month
        • Note that time commitments may increase during the year in proximity to the annual regional meeting and the regional officers’ retreat
  • Attends both the annual regional meeting and the national annual meeting
  • Attends virtual education offerings hosted by Region V
  • Attends special events at regional and national meetings
  • Participates in regular Executive Committee and Officers’ Conference calls
  • Participates in quarterly regional leadership conference calls, convened by NCURA National Organization
  • Participates in regional officers’ retreats
  • As funds allow, travel reimbursement may be provided to attend NCURA National Leadership conferences and executive committee meetings
  • Professional development and recognition within NCURA regionally and nationally
  • Receives a complimentary registration to the annual Region V meeting
  • In the event the Chair-Elect is unable to fulfill duties and/or vacates the position, the Region V Chair will appoint a new Chair-Elect in accordance with the bylaws
  • Travel is required to attend the national and regional meetings, except in extenuating circumstances. Reimbursement of travel expenses to attend the national and regional meetings is not provided under normal circumstances
  • Adherence to NCURA policies and professional standards is expected. Concerns in these areas may prompt review by the NCURA Region V Executive Committee

Region V Secretary

The Secretary shall maintain all non-financial written records for the Region. The responsibilities of the Secretary include serving as a member of the Executive Committee; preparing, maintaining, and digitally storing all official regional non-financial written records, such as meeting agendas and minutes; and overseeing committees and other activities agreed upon by the Region Chair. The term of office of the secretary shall be two years beginning January 1, 2027.

  • Serves as a member of the Executive Committee
  • Prepares and/or maintains all official regional non-financial written records, including meeting agendas and minutes, and electronic records storage
  • Oversees the Hospitality Committee and related activities at national meetings, including but not limited to the NetZone and hospitality suites
  • Oversees the Publications and Social Media Committee and related activities, including but not limited to website maintenance and social media
  • Other duties as agreed upon
  • Must be a regular member in good standing of NCURA (as defined by National By-laws) for at least three years at time of nomination
  • Must be a member of Region V
  • Should have a working knowledge of web-based technology and digital information management
  • Serves a two (2) year term beginning January 1 in odd-numbered years
  • May not serve consecutive terms, except to fill a vacated position
  • Time required to fulfill responsibilities is approximately 7+ hours per month.
        • Note that time commitments may increase during the year in proximity to the national annual meeting, and the regional officers’ retreat
  • Attends both the annual regional meeting and the national annual meeting
  • Attends special events at regional and national meetings
  • Participates in regular Executive Committee and Officers’ Conference calls
  • Participates in quarterly regional leadership conference calls, convened by NCURA National Organization
  • Attends regional officers’ retreat
  • As funds allow, travel reimbursement to Executive Committee meetings and Leadership Conferences
  • Professional development and recognition within NCURA regionally and nationally
  • Receives a complimentary registration to the annual regional meeting
  • Travel is required to attend the regional and national meetings, except under extenuating circumstances. Reimbursement of travel expenses is not available under normal circumstances
  • In the event that the office of Secretary is vacated, the Chair will appoint a replacement for the remainder of the term in accordance with the bylaws

At-Large Member to the NCURA Region V Executive Committe

The At-Large member shall serve as an advisor for the Regional Chair.  The term of office shall be two years beginning January 1, 2027.

  • Attends monthly Executive Committee meetings and other regional committee meetings
  • Supports Region V Officers in conducting regional business, which includes, for example, the development and approval of new policies and procedures, as appropriate for the region
  • Reviews and considers regional financial requests, as appropriate
  • Supports the Region V Chair with planning and activities associated with the annual regional meeting
  • Liaises and oversees initiatives, as assigned by the Region V Chair
  • Assists with regional committees by filling gaps in tasks
  • Performs other duties as agreed upon
  • Must be a regular member in good standing of NCURA (as defined by National by-laws)
  • Must be a member of Region V
  • One At-Large Member shall be elected by the regional membership in odd-numbered years and will serve a two-year term beginning in January after their election
  • One At-Large Member shall be elected by the regional membership in even-numbered years, and will serve a two-year term beginning in January after their election
  • Up to two additional At-Large Members may be appointed by the Region V Chair to serve a 1-year term concurrent with the Region V Chair
  • This is a volunteer position
  • Time required to fulfill responsibilities is approximately 5 hours per month
        • Note: time commitments may increase during the year in proximity to the National and Region V annual meetings
  • Attends the Region V annual meeting, when financially possible
  • Attends monthly Executive Committee meetings and other meetings, as assigned
  • Professional development experience, visibility, and recognition within NCURA and the research administration community, both regionally and nationally
  • Enhanced leadership and project management experience through hands-on involvement in regional initiatives
  • Receives a complimentary registration to the Region V annual meeting
  • Travel is required to attend the Region V annual meeting, except in extenuating circumstances
  • In the event the At-Large Member is unable to attend events and/or vacates the position, the Region V Chair will appoint a replacement for the remainder of the term
  • The At-Large Member agrees to abide by the National Council of University Research Administrators’ (NCURA) Governance and Administrative Policies
  • The At-Large Member agrees to maintain professionalism at all NCURA and Region V-sponsored activities
  • Adherence to NCURA policies and professional standards is expected. Concerns in these areas may prompt review by the NCURA Region V Executive Committee and could result in removal from the position
