We are excited to offer our first free, virtual Region V Professional Development Workshop for NCURA Region V members.
Workshop Title: Project Management in Research Administration: Beginning with the End in Mind
Workshop Presenters: Jennifer Potocki and Rummy Miranda, Research Administration Leads in the Research Support Office at Baylor College of Medicine
One workshop held over two days: June 25 and June 26, 2026
Times each day: 12:00pm to 2:00pm CDT

Prerequisites:
- Must be a current NCURA Member
- Basic Microsoft Office experience
- 3+ years Research Administration experience
- Must be available to attend both workshop days without interruptions. It is encouraged that manager approval be obtained to secure time to attend.
- Computer with working audio and video, because camera must remain on during workshop.
- Attendees should be prepared to actively engage in this interactive workshop.
Workshop Level: Intermediate – This level is appropriate for individuals with some knowledge and experience in the subject area, individuals who are mid-level managers and directors in their fields with an established degree of competence and/or for those seeking to build on, apply or enhance existing knowledge.
Description: This workshop equips participants with essential skills for managing sponsored projects through interactive discussions on case studies and various project scenarios.
Participants will learn to leverage Microsoft suite products like Teams and Planner for effective communication and organization of complex projects. The workshop will cover the use of meeting agenda curated templates, and teach participants to navigate project management complexities, ensuring successful completion and comprehensive reporting.
Key topics include applying the Pareto Principle (80/20 rule) during kickoff meetings, the importance of active communication and collaboration, and methods for effective management throughout the project lifecycle with a focus on team rapport and accountability. Designed for managers, team leaders, and research administrators aiming to enhance their project management proficiency, this workshop offers proven strategies and practical tools to streamline workflows, promote collaboration, and achieve successful outcomes.
