Life Cycle of Sponsored Projects Creating Inter-Institutional IRB Collaboration Agreements Where do sponsored projects begin and end. Is it the start and end date? Or does is go beyond that. This concurrent session will offer insights into what hurdles can arise during the life cycle of a sponsored project and what strategies can be used to cope with these hurdles.
Blue Marlin B The scene in Washington D.C. is always changing. This session will provide insight into what is happening today in D.C. from a costing policy, compliance and intellectual property prospective.

Concurrent Sessions NSF Update (this session will be held again on Tuesday 1:30 – 3:00pm) The National Science Foundation will present an update of what is new and developing at NSF. NSF will discuss its latest research emphasis, revised proposal submission guidelines, and ARRA funding and its implications for financial reporting.
White Marlin What is the latest information regarding the recovery act? Will there be additional dollars for universities? What are the current audit requirements and what are auditors looking for in terms of best practices? This session will provide insights into the most recent information regarding economic recovery and the economic recovery act.
Department Crisis Management When Dealing with Auditors Departments are at the front line when auditors come into town. This session will discuss what departmental and central research administrators should know when dealing with central research administration and external auditors. It’s never too early to prepare for an audit.
3:30 – 5:00 pm Concurrent Sessions Creating Inter-Institutional IRB Collaboration Agreements Collaborations with multiple university IRBs is quickly becoming the norm. This session exams what is needed to build an inter-institutional collaboration and what terms and conditions need to be in the collaborative agreement.
NIH Update (this session will be held again on Tuesday 10:30 am – 12:00 pm) The National Institutes of Health (NIH) continues to grow its budget and is making more awards than ever before to university and hospital researchers. Learn the latest about where NIH is going and how they plan on working with university researchers to get there.
RCR: Making the New Regulations Work for You The National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health have both come out with added regulations on the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR). This session will provide an overview of the new federal requirements for additional training in RCR. A discussion on the many ways Universities are handling these new requirements will be provided. Information sharing among institutions is encouraged so bring training/curriculum ideas to share with your colleagues.

Learn the latest about where NIH is going and how they plan on working with university researchers to get there.
Senior Forum: HOT TOPICS This session will provide a discussion on hot topics that keep senior level research administrators up at night. Learn about current issues that affect the world of research and sponsored programs.
White Marlin The Federal Demonstration Partnership (FDP) continues to embark on new initiatives while sustaining existing initiatives, all in the name of streamlining federal regulations and processes. FDP is implementing a pilot project called Science and Technology in America’s Recovery (STAR). This joint program between FDP and the federal Office of Science and Technology Policy is designed to capture the impact of federal investment in the national research enterprise. Learn about the STAR pilot project and other projects currently underway in the FDO.

How do you identify conflict of interest and once it is identified how should it be managed? This session will look at both of those topics and provide real life experiences in this area.
Negotiating Industrial Contracts Blue Marlin B What does it take to negotiate an industrial contract? Learn the ins and outs and pitfalls of negotiating with industry.
F&A Recovery White Marlin What are the elements of an effective F&A cost proposals? How do you engage the academic research community in gathering the data needed for presenting to your cognizant agency an effective F&A cost proposals? The elements of what needs to go into an F&A cost proposal will be discussed.
Wednesday April 28, 2010 Export Controls Update Blue Marlin A There are new regulations promulgated by the government for export controls. Those regulations will affect university based research. This update will provide you with insight on the latest information on export controls.
